The First Ever Kansas City Chinese Dragon Boat Festival |
 |
The first ever Kansas City Chinese Dragon Boat Festival on June 11th at the Country Club Plaza was a big success despite the heavy rain and the cancellation of the dragon boat race. Hundreds of spectators showed up throughout the event.
The air was filled with the aroma of Zongzi, traditional food for dragon boat festival, and children squealed, applauding a nine-man dragon as it laced through the crowds, dancing to a rhythm originating from tambourines and a drum on stage.
Observers also enjoyed performances, such as Chinese folk music Chorus, folk dance, martial art demonstrations, Tai Chi, . The event was reached to its climax when the beautiful Chinese ladies from KCCNA and UMKC dancing groups showed up in their splendid costumes.
The dragon boat festival will become an annual event in Kansas City. The next one will be on June 10, 2006. |
